I have been carrying a handgun for 41 years, concealed and in the open. I am a former Army explosive ordnance disposal technician and military policeman. I spent nearly 33 years working for the largest sheriff’s department in the world. After working as a patrol officer and a field training officer, I became a dog handler assigned to the special weapons bureau for most of my career. I am a certified firearms instructor.
Have you ever wondered how a cop can tell by looking at someone and know that he or she is armed? Or he or she is a wanted fugitive? Or he or she is about to commit a crime? These skills are learned by experience. They are not taught in a classroom. The classroom will tell you what some of the signals are, but learning is done in the street. Observing and watching. It takes time and practice. Not only will I teach you to shoot and carry a handgun, I will teach you how to see “what's coming”.
These eyes, as they say, have seen “1000” tragedies! I have seen people killed in every manner imaginable. In personal attacks, there was one continuing scenario that kept repeating itself. The victims were caught off guard and unaware they were about to be attacked. In every situation, they were not armed. The fact of the matter is, whether armed or not, there are a few steps that anyone can take that dramatically increases their chances of survival. I taught these skills to my children and my family.
